Hair

Hair is a filamentous bio material, that grows from follicles found in the dermis. The part beneath the skin is called the hair follicle. It is located in the dermis and re-grows the hair after it falls out.

The shaft is the tougher filamentous part that extends above the skin surface. A cross section of the hair shaft may be divided roughly into three zones. 1. The Cuticle 2.The Cortex 3. The Medulla.

The cuticle, consists of several layers of flat, thin cells laid over lapping one another as roof shingles.
The cortex, contains the Keratin bundles in cell.
The medulla, is an open area at the fibre’s centre.
